NYU Mavi Marmara Talk Part 3

In 2010, activists from 37 countries led a flotilla through an Israeli naval blockade of Gaza, with the intention of confronting the blockade and bringing some humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza. In May of that year, the Mavi Marmara, a Turkish ship that had joined the flotilla, was raided and seized by the Israeli Defense Force in a violent clash that remains shrouded in mystery and conflict. According the UN, nine activists were killed on the ship, yet Israeli officials have denied that claim and stated that there was no aid on the Mavi Marmara. In a panel discussion held at New York University, Noam Chomsky, professors Susan Buck-Morss and Moustafa Bayoumi and journalist Max Blumenthal navigate a few of the complicated questions raised by this incident as well as the larger situation in Gaza.
